20 Years Old: The 5-Step Plan To The Life You Were Forbidden To Live

20 years old

Are you 20 years old or close to that age? If yes, then how much control do you have over your life?

Most 20 years old guys are lost.

It’s not easy to find yourself and live life on your terms with so many distractions around. It’s even tougher when you don’t have a role model you respect to show you the right way early enough.

Most modern men are emasculated to the bone.

And most 20 year old kids don’t have a male figure to look up to.

The result?

Any of the following or many of them combined:

  • No money.
  • No self-reliance. Still living with parents or being supported by their money.
  • Lack of confidence and self-belief.
  • Lack of inner sense of fulfillment.
  • Poor physical appearance.
  • Poor social skills.
  • Virginity.

Almost one year ago, 5 out of 7 of the above were true for me.

(I had lost my virginity at 16 and went from skinny to muscular one year before.)

Anyway, I wasn’t the most successful 20 year old guy you would meet on the streets.

But, I was determined to change it.

Fast forward one year.

My story on how I made $11.032 in 2 months (with less than 1.30 hour of daily work) is featured on the FastLane Forum. The internet forum of MJ De Marco, the millionaire and author of the famous book The Millionaire Fastlane.

My life has changed completely. But, MJ agreed to let me post my article there to inspire an even bigger change.

Even though I am not yet where I want to be (because I aim super-high), I have more freedom and self-reliance I ever had.

Now, I live on my own.

I dropped out of college to accomplish my goal of becoming a professional dancer.

Even though it seemed like an unrealistic and crazy decision back then because I was completely broke and had just started to dance.

I can finally travel where I wouldn’t even imagine going before:

Life is not perfect. It will never be, because as humans, we always want something more.

What matters is to get closer to what you want every single day and not remaining stationary.

Anyway, here is what I want to say with all that self-talk.

It’s not bragging by any means, and if you think that I am talking about what I do to brag, then you should get the hell out of this site and never come back.

What I want to say is that living life on your terms is possible.

Being 20 years old does NOT condemn you to living life to satisfy others or being broke as a joke.

There are millions of opportunities.

Fiverr is just one of them.

There are tons of things you could do to make money and start being self-reliant.

Today is the day of opportunity. You could be rich doing anything you want.

A kid in Sweden became the world’s most famous YouTuber and makes millions every year.

He started his YouTube channel when he was only 21 years old. Now he is 26.

And how did he become a millionaire?

By sharing funny, entertaining videos on YouTube.

While your parents may be telling you that every 20 year old should study in college and get a degree, you know that there is more than that in life.

So, why do you compromise for LESS, when you can have MORE?

It’s plainly stupid!

You don’t even have to be a genius to be successful.

In simple words, your age doesn’t matter. Nobody cares if you are 20 years old, 17 years old or 37 years old.

You could be successful at any age, but only if you start changing your life today.

Whoever tells you that it’s not possible to live life on your terms (even if you are only 20 years old) is someone who is completely unsuccessful, broke or both.

Never, ever take advice from people who are broke, out of shape or unsuccessful.

Never. Never. Never.

For no reason.

Now with that said, let’s get into the 5-step formula for grabbing life by the horns and getting closer to the life you were forbidden to live.

This works perfectly whether you are 20 years old or 30 years old.

Read, keep notes and when you are finished, start acting upon what you learned.

You already know what you are able to accomplish in life, so stop limiting yourself by thinking that it’s “impossible”.

The 1st Step To Living Life On Your Terms At 20 Years Old

Get away.

This is probably by far the hardest one. It requires you to jump far out of your comfort zone. It’s probably going to feel weird in the beginning.

But you need to change the scenery.

If you are 20 years old and still living with your parents, you need to get away.

Your social surroundings affect your life in a HUGE degree.

You will hardly get ahead, make money, get laid or achieve anything worthwhile if you keep living with your parents after 18.

Unless your parents are wildly successful and multi-millionaires, they are probably holding you back in life.

That doesn’t mean that they do it on purpose or that they don’t love you.

However, their attitudes, behaviors and beliefs are contagious.

(The same applies to your friends.)

And if they are not successful in life, they will probably transfer all their unsuccessful beliefs, behaviors and habits to you.

In essence, they are dragging you down.

On top of that, you are never going to be successful if you don’t become self reliant.

You need to get away and live your own life.

Moving away from my parent’s home and living somewhere hundreds of miles away on my own was one of the best decisions I ever took.

Now, you might be wondering how you are going to live on your own without any monetary support, right?

Don’t worry, I have a plan for you.

Move #1

If you are completely broke, find a job where you live and save as much money as you can. You need to save enough money to cover your living expenses for at least 6 months.

If you already have money, you can skip this step. (No “daddy’s money”, you have to do this on your own.)

Move #2

Move to another city that’s several hours away from your home. Or even another country, if you are bold.

Start a new life.

Find a job there, to make ends meet. Start working on a business idea on the side. Or become a Fiverrpreneur.

Now you have 1) some money saved 2) income coming from a job and 3) business on development.

Move #3

When your side business or freelancing starts bringing in significant profits, you can ditch the job and go full-time on your business.

After all, the job was just a temporary fix on your path to financial independence and self-employment.

You do not want your job to be a permanent fix. It’s only a vehicle you use to travel some miles ahead.

You will have to ditch it later on.

I believe that’s the same formula, Victor Pride followed to grow Bold and Determined into the beast that it is today.

He left USA, went to China, worked for a while teaching English while developing his business.

Eventually, B&D took off and Victor doesn’t need a job anymore.

The 2nd Step To Living Life On Your Terms At 20 Years Old

Find a mentor.

Find someone who has reached the level of success you want to reach and learn from him.

It’s always better to learn from the mistakes and experiences of someone else, than learn on the basis of overt trial and error.

Learning from someone’s experiences saves you valuable time and energy.

It’s like you take a shortcut towards your goal by instantly downloading someone’s knowledge.

As Richard Dawkins has wisely stated:

20 years old success formula

Mentors = Simulation

It’s foolish and even arrogant to try and do everything on your own when you can jump 10 blocks forward by having a mentor.

There is a small pitfall though.

Why should someone mentor you?

You can’t simply go to a successful man and ask him to be your mentor. Successful men are often busy or have no interest in babysitting you.

Nobody wants to mentor someone whose only interest is to take instead of giving.

To understand the difference, read this great article on the FastLane forum. Read it and make sure you are a giver and not a taker.

Now it’s important to pick the right mentor.

As I said, the 1st element you should look at, is if he has reached the level of success you want to reach.

The 2nd element, is the “height” of his success.

You can’t go directly to Bill Gates and ask him to mentor you.

Pick someone “less” successful. Don’t shoot for the billionaire. Shoot for the millionaire.

Does it make sense?

Find a mentor who is far more successful than you are, but without being too far away from your reality.

Last but not least, understand that nobody has a genuine interest in your business, desires and needs. Especially if you are completely unknown to him/her.

In the beginning of the relationship, you might have to give more to get noticed.

Don’t complain about it. The easiest way would be to take a rich man out to dinner – even if you have no money. The return on investment would be invaluable.

You should always pay for the best advice you can afford.

The 3rd Step To Living Life On Your Terms At 20 Years Old

Get in shape.

Life is so much easier when you are strong and muscular.

The benefits of having an outstanding physique are many. To list a few:

  • Turbocharged confidence.
  • More attention from the opposite gender.
  • More respect from other people overall.
  • Increased physical health and wellness.
  • Discipline.
  • Self-belief.

On top of that, you learn how to set a goal and stick to a program for achieving it.

Becoming successful in life making millions of dollars or running a profitable business is not so much different than getting into shape.

The core principles of success remain the same in any endeavor you want to get in.

Instead of trying to swim in the Atlantic Ocean with complicated business stuff, jump into your swimming pool first.

Gym is your “swimming pool” where you calibrate the skills needed to succeed elsewhere.

One of the reasons Arnold Schwarzenegger lived such an incredible life is that he first got into shape.

Just look at what he achieved afterwards:

  • Became a multi-millionaire.
  • Acted in some of the best movies ever created.
  • Created a strong personal brand and reputation.
  • Became governor of California.

Ok, then he screwed up and got divorced with his wife because he had a baby with his housekeeper (his wife was ignorant for several years).

What’s the point of saying that?

Arnold is an incredibly successful man. But, he is not a god. He made mistakes, just like every human does.

It’s not that nobody can emulate his success and accomplish the same or even bigger goals.

If he could do it, you can do it too.

It all starts when you make the decision to get into shape and take care of your physique.

Go to the gym and lift weights. You will also find it easier to get laid when you have a physique, and the confidence that comes from having it.

What’s more, don’t ever say you are too busy to get into shape.

You can build a physique even if you are busy.

And if that’s not enough to persuade you, go ahead and ask Ed Latimore.

Ed is a professional heavyweight boxer who is also majoring in Electrical Engineering. Certainly busy, but still finds time to work on his physique.

The 4th Step To Living Life On Your Terms At 20 Years Old

If you refuse to learn, you are heading into the land of “nowhere”.

Knowledge doesn’t necessarily mean a college degree or real life experience or reading books.

It could be any of them or a combination of them.

Note: If you decide to go to college, make sure that 1) you are doing it for the right reasons and 2) you can go without becoming a debt slave.

Either way, you need some sort of knowledge.

The earlier you start accumulating wisdom, the faster you are going to become successful.

In life, you need 2 kinds of wisdom.

A) Real life experience: that’s what you learn in the field. You have to take action to acquire it.

B) Informational wisdom: that’s acquired by reading or learning from other people.

Most people are stuck with only one of these.

But they still get nowhere.

You need both of them to succeed.

If you only have real life experience, you are going to make many mistakes that you could have avoided if you were acquiring informational wisdom.

And you are going to be less efficient because you are going to learn from trial and error.

If you only have informational wisdom, you will be able to say good things in theory and look smarter than the average Joe, but you won’t be successful unless you take action and go out on the field.

You need both kinds of knowledge to become successful.

20 years old entrepreneur

Do not refuse to learn.

Nobody on this planet is smart enough to stop learning. Whoever believes the opposite, is completely ignorant and his life will be shaped accordingly to his beliefs.

Einstein has wisely stated that: “Once you stop learning, you start dying”.

You better listen to one of the brightest men who ever lived.

The 5th Step To Living Life On Your Terms At 20 Years Old

Financial independence.

It’s self-evident that if you want to say you live life on your terms, you can’t be supported financially by anybody.

From my perspective, there are 3 things you want to eliminate to increase your financial independence.

  1. Dependency to loans and credit cards.
  2. Dependency to family.
  3. Dependency to working for someone else (job).

The first one is the easiest one. But it’s also the hardest one.

I know this doesn’t make sense, so let me explain.

It’s the easiest one because being free of debt slavery is a mindset.

All you have to do is to take the decision to never get into debt (provided that you are not already in debt). It takes literally minimal effort to take that decision.

However, it’s the hardest one because you have to keep the promise you give to yourself.

You have to do what you say you will do.

That’s not so easy for many people because it requires to stifle instant gratification and play for the long-term.

Taking control of your mindset is not as easy as it sounds.

Mike Cernovich’s writing on mindset is great and I would recommend checking out some of his articles.

Now, when it comes to cutting your dependency ties with your family or a job you have, you need to start making money on your terms.

What does this mean?

You need a new source of income that you can control as much as possible.

When you work for someone else, you don’t have control. He determines how much you are going to get paid and he makes your work schedule.

In essence, you need to start some kind of business.

Then, you can control both your income and work schedule.

Do not let the word “business” scare you.

In the past, I used to believe that having a business means making millions of dollars per year, having hundreds or thousands of employees and renting a huge workspace.

Not at all.

Nowadays, you could even run a “business” from your laptop. Thousands of internet entrepreneurs do that.

Also, do not let your age discourage you. Whether you are 20 years old, 25 years old or 30 years old – it doesn’t matter.

People care more about what you can do for them and how you can help them. Your age is irrelevant.

Being 20 years old is NOT a valid excuse for not starting a business and taking life seriously.

Sure, you might not make hundreds of thousands of $$$ in your 1st year, but if you keep hustling, it will eventually come.

If you are 20 years old, set a realistic income goal that will help you live independently.

Without being in need of your family or a cog job.

Say $2000-$5000 to start with.

That’s perfectly within the range of your possibilities.  I made more than that on Fiverr a few months after I started.

What makes you believe that you can not do it?

And I am not the only young man doing this sort of thing.

Robert Koch from is around that age too. He is also kicking asses and taking names.

Where I want to conclude is that your age shouldn’t be an excuse, but a motive to push you for accomplishing more as early as possible.

The earlier you start, the sooner you are going to be financially independent.

The plan is laid out here. I know that this sounds chiche, but all that’s left now is to “just do it”.

Watch some Shia LaBeouf to get a fun dose of inspiration and get started today.

Because yesterday, you said tomorrow.
