When a personal development plan doesn’t work, you simply move on to the next “life transforming” coaching program and spend more of your hard-earned money on something that won’t really work.

The 2 Big Self Improvement Lies You Have Been Told

When I started reading about self-improvement I discovered that there were two kinds of people.

The first category consists of those who believe that to become better and improve yourself, you have to compare yourself to your old-self.

These people say that you must never compare yourself to others.

That you should focus solely on your own personal growth because that’s the best way to become a better version of yourself.

They say that if you compare yourself to others, you focus on the life of other people instead of yours.

This argument has a solid base, but it’s not absolutely true.

Then, you have the other team of Experts, Gurus & Coaches claiming that you must compare yourself to others, because only when you do that, you can really grow as a person.

Both points of view are flawed, and I have fallen into both of these traps…

I used to compare myself to others and all I felt was a complete disappointment about myself. I could never feel that I had achieved enough.

I always felt inadequate.

That’s what happens when you solely compare yourself to others.

You feel inadequate. You can’t enjoy the process because you only focus on the result.

You feel incredibly disappointed, because you don’t seem to get there even if you do your best.

Why Comparing Yourself To Others Is Wrong

Only comparing yourself to others doesn’t let you see the progress you’ve made.

It stops you from enjoying the process, because it makes you think that you will only be happy when you reach your goal.

You will be happy when you have this.

You will feel fulfilled when you have done that.

You will feel confident when you do this.

You will be successful only when you have done this.

But what actually happens is that you never feel successful and confident when you act that way.

You will always want to get, have or do something more.

You will always feel inadequate, empty and this will DESTROY your drive and motivation.

You will eventually quit….

Why Comparing Yourself To Your Old Self Is Also Wrong

Many people claim that the best way to progress is to compare yourself with your old-self.

They say: “Look who you were one year before and compare that with who you are now”.

If the difference is profound, then you are becoming a better version of yourself.

That’s right.

You may have really become better than you were last year.

But that’s a very naïve statement.

☑How much better have you become?

☑Have you taken advantage of your full potential or not?

☑Have you maximized your personal growth?

You have to take all these parameters into account when you compare yourself now with yourself a year ago.

And it’s not possible to measure your improvement with absolute certainty.

The fact that you have become better is subjective.

Better based on what standards?

Your old ones?

But you sucked one year ago…

You see, when you only compare yourself now to yourself a year ago or so you limit yourself from accomplishing bigger things.

You may fall into the mistake of having too low standards.

And you can’t do that if you want to be a winner at life.

Winners have high standards.

Only comparing yourself to your old self doesn’t give you a big goal to aim for. You may improve yourself, but you may also settle for less than you could possibly achieve, do or create.

Comparing yourself to your old self doesn’t make you think big and thereby transcend your limits and achieve extraordinary things.

The Unique Personal Development Framework That Works

So, if none of these approaches are right, which is the best way to go?

It’s something I call the “Unique Personal Development Plan / Framework”. 

It’s unique because most people don’t know about it and don’t follow it (guess why most people stay average).

And if you want to be élite you don’t want to do what average people do, do you?

Here is the truth that mainstream self-improvement gurus and “I Know Everything” Life Coaches don’t tell you (because they don’t even know it):

The truth is that you MUST compare yourself to others and you MUST also compare yourself to your old self.


You must do both if you want to take advantage of your full potential.


✔On the one hand, comparing yourself to your old self will motivate you by showing you how much you have changed and what you have accomplished.

✔On the other hand, comparing yourself to those who are already insanely successful sets you up for greatness.

Most people remain complacent when they reach a certain level of success.

The cure for that is to set your standards even higher and compare yourself to someone who is even more successful than you are.

This will make you think out of the box while seeing the progress you’ve made will help you keep going.

That’s your personal development plan for becoming the best version of yourself.

If you act accordingly, you will see the difference in your own life.

Your Plan Of Action

Now that, you know what you have to do – let’s see how you actually do it.

This is not a “get rich overnight plan”. What you have to do now is an 1-year plan.

You will only spend 5 minutes right now to come up with the plan, but you will see a real difference only a year after – if you are patient to do this.

This is what I have done to go from skinny to muscular and works incredibly well!

So, what you have to do is to think about 3 things you want to improve in your life.

It may be your physical appearance, your business, your career, your body or anything else.

1.Set a 6 month benchmark => Find someone who has what you want to accomplish and set the goal to reach him within the next 6 months.

This someone can be a friend, family member, someone you see in the gym / school /work / online or anyone you know.

When you reach the 6 months and surpass him, then measure the difference between where you were when you started and when you are now.

2.Set a 12 month benchmark => You have already passed the 6 month benchmark. You have reached your target goal.

Now, find someone more successful who has what you want to accomplish and set the goal to reach him within the next 12 months.

You have to set both benchmarks now. For the first 6 months focus only on the 1st benchmark.

Work every day on the goal you’ve set.

One year from now, you will be a better version of yourself. But only if you take action now.

It all comes down to how much you want to be a winner.
