How to Get Flawless Skin By Enriching Your Nutrition
It’s not only the external that has a huge impact on your skin. Your internal health plays also a huge role and that’s why you have to provide your body with essential nutrients.
General advice like avoid processed food, eat organic and grass-fed meat, avoid junk food & sugar, get enough omega 3, protein, fats ,carbs and so on still applies and should be followed for optimal health.
But there is another food group that you might don’t know which can have a huge positive impact on your skin.
It’s called Probiotics.
Your intestine is inhabited by thousands of microorganisms and many of them are bacteria. All these microorganisms are called intestinal or gut flora.
What this has to do with probiotics? And what the hell are probiotics?
In very simple words probiotics are foods or supplements that contain healthy bacteria which are essential for your intestinal health. They provide many benefits from weight loss to enhanced immune function and well-conditioned skin.
Many people confuse PRObiotics with PREbiotics. Prebiotics are dietary fibers that help the bacteria that live ALREADY in the gut.
Probiotics supply the gut with new healthy bacteria necessary for its ideal function. Taking care of your gut’s optimal function is one of the best things you can do for your health!
Why are probiotics good for your skin’s health?
- Because they are said to help fighting acne. 
- Because they are said to reduce inflammation which is one of the main reasons of acne breakouts and impaired skin health.
Where can you get probiotics from?
The best sources of probiotics are kefir, sauerkraut, pickles, olives and of course yogurt! You can also get probiotics from supplements but I think that getting the right amount from your nutrition is enough.
2 Potent Drinks to Get Glowing Skin
1.Dong Quai Tea
Dong quai is a plant which is used as a medication for problems like hypertension, joint pain and infertility.
It has the ability to balance your hormones and especially your estrogen levels. If your estrogen levels are imbalanced you might have skin problems like acne breakouts. Dong quai tea fixes that problem.
Try drinking it 3-4 times per week.
I love smoothies. You can add whatever you like and play with different flavors which is so much fun!
Green smoothies are like normal smoothies but with a minor addition. For normal smoothies you get some fruits, some liquid and then blend it up in the blender.
For green smoothies you have to add some green vegetables like spinach, kale, parsley or romaine lettuce.
Why add green vegetables? Because they are full with highly absorbable nutrients that your body can utilize to rejuvenate your skin and even heal acne.
The fact is that green vegetables are extremely potent and beneficial for your skin’s health because of the wide variety of nutrients they provide. However they are not always part of our diets because they are not so fun to eat.
Except that it’s difficult to get all the necessary nutrients because when you chew them you absorb just a small fraction. That’s why it’s great to put them into smoothies because the blender does the work for you.
How to Make Those Smoothies
What you need is:
- A blender
- 250 ml of milk( almond, coconut or organic raw milk)
- 1 cup of organic yogurt (not necessary but it can add some extra protein)
- 2-3 different kind of fruits like bananas, apples, berries etc.
- You can also add vegetables like carrots which offer vitamin A for your skin
- Your green vegetables.
- Extras like ginger, vanilla extract, protein powder, chia seeds or whatever you want.
Note: Don’t put too much leafy greens in there because you won’t enjoy the taste. Fruits and extra additions can give your smoothie a great flavor and cover the taste of the green vegetables but not if you add too much of them.
You have to experiment and find the best combination for your taste.You can also gradually increase the amount of green vegetables you put in your smoothie.
Delicious Green Smoothie Recipe with Strawberries
I love strawberries and the summer has already come so this is my favorite green smoothie recipe that I drink almost every day and I want to share with you because it’s really great.
- 1 cup of spinach
- 5-6 strawberries
- Half banana
- 500 ml of water
Extra tip: I always make sure that my fruits are in the refrigerator for some hours before I make my smoothie because it makes the smoothie cold which smells more like summer.
2 Powerful Herbs That Can Do Miracles for Your Skin’s Health
Berberine is a phytonutrient found in many herbs like the goldenseal and barberry or berberis vulgaris.
Berberine can really beat your acne into the ground and do it relatively quickly. A study on berberis vulgaris properties has shown 45% improvement in the patient’s skin condition.
Some of the benefits of berberine:
- Reduced insulin sensitivity: higher insulin is a key trigger behind acne breakouts.
- It’s a natural anti-microbial substance.
- Reduces inflammation. 
Berberine is safe and has been widely used for its therapeutic powers for many years. However it shouldn’t be used in cases of breastfeeding, pregnancy or in combination with other prescription medications.
Berberine is a very powerful substance and can really help in healing your acne. You will see drastic improvement in the first 3-6 weeks. I would recommend not to use it for a longer period than 2 months because it can mess a little with your intestinal bacteria as it is anti-microbial.
You have no reason to worry in the short-term but it is recommended to stop it after that period for a month at least. You can take berberine from goldenseal or barberry capsules because the herb is very bitter.
The capsules should be taken 1 time per day for 5 days per week. (2 days break)
Basil is super antibacterial and can be a great addition to your skin care routine.
Buy a bunch of basil, chop the leaves into little pieces and add them into boiling water.
Wait for the water to cool(1-2 hours) and then you have your basil toner ready. You can apply it to your face with a cotton pad.
